Brittle, Static, Breakage, Broomstick, Split Ends, Electric Charge, all words to describe the hair on your head when its feeling dry. Does your hair ever drive you crazy due to any one of those descriptions? Well how can we fix that? A nice moisturizing hair mask of course!
Dry, brittle hair can happen for many reasons such as heat, weather, color etc. The weather for me seems to be my biggest issue. Every time it cools down my scalp, skin, and hair get so dry and to add insult to injury…my hair becomes a static mess. (One of my biggest pet peeves) This mask is great for those with dry hair, frizzy hair, damaged hair or even what I call “winter hair”. It is extremely moisturizing and even after a couple weeks if not longer you can still notice your hair feeling soft and healthy. Conditioner is great but sometimes you just need a little more help!
We all know coconut oil does wonders for our hair but did you know that olive oil, honey, avocado, and even vegetable glycerin are amazing aides in hair care too? Well they are and that’s why this hair mask is fantastic. You can do it every couple weeks or just once a month especially during the cooler months. It will surely help you out with your mane.
How to apply
It’s fairly easy to apply, I admit a little messy but still easy (maybe you should apply it in the shower). You can then wrap your hair in a shower cap, (plastic wrap works too), then apply a towel to keep your noggin warm. I recommend leaving the mask in for at least 30 minutes but I tend to leave mine in for a couple hours. If your feeling brave you can flaunt your awesome hair mask hairstyle while running errands. I drove to pick up my daughter from her grandparents house once and even though it was dark outside I admit I tried to be pretty sneaky and avoided seeing any neighbors.
When your ready to wash it out, bring a durable comb or brush with you in the shower and brush it all out. Then shampoo (twice) to get all of the oils out (or else your hair will really look like a broom stick-I know this from experience :). I would also recommend a simple scalp treatment with some baking soda. Just mix in a palm full of baking soda with your first shampoo and scrub well, then shampoo again (no baking soda this time).
If you do the no poo method of washing your hair or use a shampoo made only with oils you will definitely want to use some soapy shampoo. I used Avalon Organic’s Lavender Shampoo
and it cleaned it out great. Condition after and dry as usual. After your hair is all dry and pretty you will catch your self running your hair through it all day long….ahhhh it’s just so soft!
